Amethyst is a variety of silicon quartz, characterized by its unique purple hue. Amethyst is one of the most well known semi-precious gems in the world, favored by lapidaries (people who cut, polish, or engrave gems) for its soft vibrant color, natural abundance, and relatively high durability.

Like all species of quartz, amethyst is primarily composed of a tetrahedral crystalline lattice of SiO4 molecules.

Amethyst is a piezoelectric material, indicating that it can convert mechanical energy into electrical energy. Piezoelectric materials like amethyst have found a number of uses in televisions, microphones, generators, and even nanotechnology.

With the gem representing the Israeli Tribe of Dan. The Hebrew gave Amethyst the name Ahlamah or dream stone. With the belief in Hebrew culture that the crystal provided pleasant dreams.

In ancient China, amethyst became a powerful tool in the art of Feng Shui. Used by masters of the art to clear negative energy and drive away the hazards of life.

The most expensive and difficult color to make in ancient times was purple. Taking THOUSANDS of Murex Sea Snails, (Yep, the most true and beautiful purple dye, can only be made by mail. Snail.) to produce enough dye to color a cloth the size of a handkerchief. 🤯.. I know… That’s some Cosmic ish!
